Howdy, y'all.
I am self-taught (self-learning?), aspiring to be a photographer. I am inspired by other photographers' work. I use a Nikon D-50 w/ a kit 28-88mm lens. Got the camera from a friend in March, 2012.
Here I post my photographs: plants, architecture, street scenes, night shots. Some people, even strangers. Every so often I post photography related content.
For many years, I believed the popular, unfounded fantasy that great art photographs are born exactly as published. This is, by the way, the twin sibling (both of them are equally evil) of the "authors sit down and spit out good writing" fallacy. Both art forms take buttloads of editing and rethinking and work.
Thanks for stopping by.
Enjoy.

Love this plant. It is usually, for some reason, very heard to get a good photograph of these flowers.

A “just Enough” Dose of Cuteness. Davis, 05-11-12.
This is outside a house that has a beautiful front yard full of roses and agave and such. Also in the front yard is a flagpole; the homeowners fly a different country’s flag every day, though for US holidays they fly the Stars & Stripes. Then, along the side, the put up five, six “planter” bicycles on poles, with each bike painted a bright solid color. Very cool.

Wow. Brown Orchids? SLB Greenhouse. UC Davis, 03-19-12.
I love orchids, but these blew me away. Not only was their coloring amazing to me, but they are so large. Though they look like the most common variety, the brown coloring left me breathless.
The Garden Across the Street From My Office. UC Davis, 03-26-12.
This is kept beautiful by the same folks who care for the Botanical Conservatory. I have taken quite a few closeups this little garden’s plants and flowers, almost always trying to capture the plant life so it seems to be in a natural, not manufactured, environment. However, I must admit, this little garden, and the one right across from it, are always so pretty. Ernesto and his students and volunteer/intern crew do a great job.
Also, just FYI, the building to the right is the Science Laboratory Building (SLB). On the third floor, facing the street, is the greenhouse where I also take a lot of pictures. Actually, I started taking pictures of the plants in SLB greenhouse several months before I ventured into the Botanical Conservatory.
