Howdy, y'all.

I am self-taught (self-learning?), aspiring to be a photographer. I am inspired by other photographers' work. I use a Nikon D-50 w/ a kit 28-88mm lens. Got the camera from a friend in March, 2012.

Here I post my photographs: plants, architecture, street scenes, night shots. Some people, even strangers. Every so often I post photography related content.

For many years, I believed the popular, unfounded fantasy that great art photographs are born exactly as published. This is, by the way, the twin sibling (both of them are equally evil) of the "authors sit down and spit out good writing" fallacy. Both art forms take buttloads of editing and rethinking and work.

Thanks for stopping by.
Enjoy.

Davis Carnival, V: Several Michaels. Davis, 04-22-12.

Michael Jackson was all about his art, but the sad craziness of our contemporary celebrity cult condensed and cheapened his visionary tenure so his luminous career is summed up in garish images splashed on the front of a carnival ride. All the color and lights on this ride’s façade replicate MJ’s own publicity generated façade of happiness.

Here the younger Michael seeming to study the older Michael was especially disturbing, since the older, “Smooth Criminal” Michael looks so unnatural.

smh

Davis Carnival: Two Cool Dragons in Black & White. Davis, 04-22-12.

The others were all about the colors, but these two are all about the look and feel, the contrast.

Davis Carnival, III: Cool Dragon Mini-Roller Coaster. Davis, 04-22-12.

This is all about the colors, especially in the bright midday sunlight.

Davis Carnival, II: Flying Swing Merry-Go-Round? Davis, 04-22-12.
This is all about the primary colors and the guy standing there, making certain the kids are safely in their seats. His posture (pose?) is very legacy Superman, no? I actually think he saw me pointing the camera at him and opted to pose.

Davis Carnival, I: Whirling Strawberries Up Close. Davis, 04-22-12.

Fascinated by the color and light of it all, I was so happy this ride gave me the chance to take these pictures that almost exclusively feature the three primary colors. However, eventually I found some interesting cultural references that were disturbing. I also wanted, for the most part, to capture the place, not the people.
